AI: Topics in Machine Learning (Text Analytics)

This course introduces computational methods for analyzing large-scale textual data in public policy research. Students examine theoretical foundations of text analysis and learn to apply techniques such as lexical analysis, lexicogrammatical analysis, and topic modeling to extract insights from extensive corpora of documents, interviews, and policy texts. The course emphasizes combining computer-assisted analysis with human interpretation to generate empirically grounded findings. By designing and conducting their own text analysis projects, students develop proficiency in data selection, methodological application, and communicating results to diverse policy audiences.
