Our History
In 1970, RAND piloted a new graduate school — the only one of its kind housed at a research organization.
Founded in 1970, the RAND School is the only graduate school housed within a research organization. For over 50 years, we have prepared students to bridge theory and practice, combining rigorous scholarship with direct engagement in policy research. This legacy of innovation ensures our graduates are equipped to address the world’s toughest challenges.
Our Community
Our faculty comprises RAND researchers who want to influence the next generation of policymakers and analysts.
- Faculty come from RAND’s 1,000+ researchers. At any time, 250 of them are teaching courses, mentoring students on research projects, or serving on dissertation committees

Our Programs
The RAND School offers five graduate degrees—Master of Policy Analysis, Master of National Security Policy, Master of Technology Policy, Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Policy Analysis, and the Frederick S. Pardee Ph.D. in Policy Analysis. Our programs blend academic rigor with applied learning, and M.Phil. and Ph.D. students gain hands-on experience through on-the-job research with RAND experts. Most courses are taught in person, with some faculty teaching remotely from other RAND offices.
