Space Policy

This course introduces students to the policy systems that govern U.S. space activities, providing a foundation for analytic work across law, security, commerce, economics, and sustainability. Students examine domestic decision processes and regulatory gaps, explore international law and governance, analyze national security foundations and emerging threats, and assess commercial, civil, and economic drivers of space activity.

Instruction combines short lectures with simulations, structured debates, and memo writing, applying decision modeling and stakeholder power analysis to test trade-offs and feasibility. By the end of the course, students frame problems clearly, apply evidence and economic tools, evaluate options within political and institutional constraints, and produce concise policy briefs grounded in real-world decision contexts.
