Robust Decision Making

This course introduces quantitative methods for supporting decisions under deep uncertainty, emphasizing strategies that perform effectively across a wide range of plausible futures. Students examine core Robust Decision Making (RDM) techniques developed at RAND and situate them within broader approaches to robustness, adaptivity, and ambiguity in policy analysis.

The course explores analytic frameworks, simulation-based tools, and applications in areas such as climate adaptation, infrastructure planning, and security strategy. By the end, students apply RDM principles to design adaptive policies and evaluate trade-offs in dynamic, uncertain policy environments.
