Media and National Security

This course analyzes the Constitutional foundations and practical implications of the free press in democratic governance, focusing on its interactions with national security institutions and policy processes. Students examine theoretical and empirical perspectives on media–government dynamics, apply frameworks of news literacy and strategic communication, and evaluate complex issues such as policy disclosure, classification, and the effects of mis- and disinformation.

Through case studies and simulation exercises, students design and critique media strategies for civilian and military leaders. By the end, students demonstrate the ability to integrate communication analysis into the formulation and public presentation of national security policy.
