Mathematics for Policy Analysis

This course introduces the mathematical principles essential for quantitative coursework in microeconomics, statistics, econometrics, and analytic methods. Designed for entering RAND students seeking to strengthen quantitative foundations, the course seeks to facilitate students’ familiarity and comfort with the mathematical and statistical tools they will need for subsequent course work. Topics include multivariate calculus with a focus on optimization, matrix algebra, random variables, and statistical distributions. By the end, students develop proficiency in the mathematical techniques required for rigorous analysis in public policy research and practice.
