Latin American Security

This course analyzes the evolving security challenges in Latin America through the lens of U.S. foreign and defense policy. Students examine issues including civil–military relations, transnational organized crime, migration and border management, and emerging threats related to cyber and environmental security.

The course assesses how U.S. strategic interests, aid programs, and partnerships shape regional stability and influence democratic governance and economic resilience. By the end, students apply policy analysis frameworks to evaluate U.S. engagement strategies and propose approaches that advance security cooperation and sustainable development throughout the region.

Note: This course is open to MNSP and MPhil/PhD students (with priority given to MNSP students).
