Intelligence and National Security

This course introduces students to key issues in intelligence through the perspectives of collectors, analysts, and consumers within the U.S. national security system. Students examine the organization of the Intelligence Community, congressional oversight, and core disciplines such as collection, analysis, covert action, and counterintelligence.

The course also explores the dynamics of intelligence support to policymakers, strategic warning, and the evolving challenges of the digital age. Historical case studies and publicly available documents provide insight into the policy, bureaucratic, and operational foundations of intelligence. By the end, students gain a comprehensive understanding of how intelligence functions as a critical component of national security decision‑making.
