Green Swans: Extreme Weather Impact on Financial Stability, Risk Management, and Policies

This course examines climate-related “Green Swan” events—high-impact, deeply uncertain phenomena with nonlinear and systemic effects on global financial stability. Students analyze how extreme weather and ecological disruptions propagate through markets, regulatory frameworks, and risk management systems. The course introduces emerging approaches for modeling and mitigating climate-driven financial risks, including stress testing, scenario analysis, and adaptive management tools. By the end of the course, students evaluate how policy institutions and firms can strengthen resilience against complex, climate-induced shocks.
