Geopolitics and Security of the Korean Peninsula

This course analyzes the geopolitical and security challenges shaping the Korean Peninsula and their policy implications for regional and global stability. Students examine traditional threats, including North Korea’s military and diplomatic posture, alongside emerging issues such as economic security, technological supply chains, and strategic resource dependencies.

The course evaluates South Korea’s position within the evolving Indo-Pacific security and economic architecture and assesses its approach to managing U.S.–China strategic competition. By the end, students apply policy-analytic frameworks to assess alliance management, economic resilience, and South Korea’s strategic choices in advancing national and regional security objectives.
