European Security

This course provides an overview of the factors shaping European security and their implications for U.S. national interests. Students examine the region’s political institutions, economic interdependencies, and geographic and historical foundations as determinants of stability. The course explores major security challenges including Russian aggression, terrorism, cyber and hybrid threats, mass migration, climate change, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Through analysis of governments and multinational institutions, students assess how Europe addresses collective security problems. By the end, they gain an understanding of the complex dynamics influencing European security policy and U.S.–European security cooperation.
