The Intersection of Technology, National Security, and Foreign Policy and Methods for Analysis

This course examines how technological innovation influences national security and how government actions shape technology development and adoption. Students explore dual‑use technologies with commercial and military applications through short seminars and interactive case studies. The course introduces methods for identifying emerging technologies, assessing dual‑use potential, setting investment and prioritization strategies, and envisioning their roles in future security environments.

Emphasis is placed on anticipating game‑changing applications and their implications for the United States, allies, and adversaries. By the end, students produce an analytic paper applying these methods to a technology of their choice to assess its strategic significance.
