Computational Economics

This course introduces quantitative methods used to model and analyze economic systems for policy applications. Students learn optimization techniques ranging from Lagrange to nonlinear programming (NLP) to Mixed Complementarity Problems (MCP). The course explores intertemporal savings problems, general equilibrium, input-output analysis, firm-level production networks, and financial economic modeling. Models are implemented using GAMS and Python. By the end of the course, students should be able to apply computational tools to evaluate and design policy interventions addressing complex economic challenges.
