Connecting Coursework to the Research Process: The Applied Microeconomics Seminar
This course bridges applied economic methods learned in coursework with contemporary research practice. Students engage directly with RAND's broader research network by participating in the Applied Microeconomics seminar series, where external economists present ongoing work. Through critical analysis of seminar manuscripts, written memos, and guided discussions, students evaluate methodological choices and research design strategies. By the end of the course, students apply their analytical training to assess frontier research and identify pathways for developing independent, policy-relevant economic studies.
Note: This course is only open to M.Phil./Ph.D. students.
