Academics and Student Experience

Are your programs in person or online?

The RAND School is accredited as an in-person program, and students are generally expected to attend courses on campus. When a course originates from the other campus, students typically attend virtually, though a shared viewing room is sometimes set up so they can gather in person.

Can I study part time?

Yes. Many of our master’s degree programs—including the Master of Policy Analysis (MPA), Master of National Security Policy (MNSP), and Master of Technology Policy (MTP)—offer part-time enrollment options. Students on our D.C.-area campus can take classes in the evening.

Can I transfer credits from another institution?

Transfer credits from other institutions are generally not accepted toward RAND School degree requirements. However, for a limited number of courses, students with relevant prior coursework or experience may apply for a waiver and substitute another course in its place.
